Specifically well salted boiling water. How much water depends on how much pasta you are cooking. Plenty of water is best but even if you are limited to a small pan do not fret all your pasta needs is salted boiling water. In a perfect world a large oversized pot would be best. But if you are cooking lets say a pound of pasta for a group to enjoy even an eight cup/two quart pan will do just fine. Yes eight cups or two quarts of water will do the trick for a pound of pasta. Bring the water to the highest boil you can and leave it at that temperature. Add enough salt (I recommend sea salt for both flavor and mineral content) so that you can just taste it in the water. Too much salt is as bad as too little salt. Once the water is boiling fiercely add the pasta and stir it briskly in the pan until it comes to a boil once again. Here is an old professional pasta cooking trick for when you are cooking any type of spaghetti or long pasta. Break the pasta in half before dropping it into the pan. Not only will it fit perfectly but it will cook evenly. You are not waiting for the pasta to cook and bend itself into the pan which can take over a minute. Your pasta will have the same perfect Al Dente (firm slightly hard slightly crunchy) texture all the way through. In addition it is Much Easier to eat. It also takes on sauces much better than foot long plus pasta. Most pasta packages recommend that you cook the pasta for a certain number of minutes.

This formula is ideal when cooking. 10g of salt for every 100g of Pasta for each 1L of water. The point to recollect should be to always add salt to the water when it s boiling lowering the warmth once the salt is stirred through. By forgetting to add the salt before the pasta you can cause the pasta to need extra cooking time. And don t worry in case you add too much salt because a common technique is to add a potato into the cooking water. The potato acts like a sponge and soaks up much of the surplus salt. And do not despair if ever the potato doesn t soak up all the salt because you can always rinse the pasta under hot water after it s cooked. If however you discover you haven t put enough salt into the water then it s better to add extra flavour through the use of sauces that support the pasta. Once the salt has been dissolved throughout the water increase the warmth until you reach boiling point once more. If you are cooking long pasta just like spaghetti or fettuccine having a long fork will give great results. If however you are cooking shorter pasta then you re better to use a wooden spoon. Resist the temptation to break up the pasta whenever you re putting it into the pot. Instead wait until the pasta has softened before stirring using a wooden fork If using a lid during cooking allow some steam to escape stirring the pasta every three minutes or so. There are different types of pots that are fitted with special nonstick coating and will even allow your pasta to become al dente.

You will use this in every pasta sauce you make. Tomato Puree. You need to have at least two cans of tomato puree for every pasta dish you want to create. Garlic. You can t have spaghetti sauce without having garlic. Herbs. You need a combination of Oregano Basil and other Italian seasonings in order to accomplish the real Italian taste. Parmesan cheese. You need to top your dish with parmesan to give it the best flavor. You can also enjoy a white sauce over your pasta or a basic recipe that contains diced tomatoes garlic onion salt and pepper. You can create a dish that is unbelievable every time. Many people who are trying to lose weight wonder is pasta healthy or fattening? Pasta like many foods high in carbohydrates often gets a bad reputation for being fattening; however this does not have to be true.
